LSE Africa Summit 2020 – Africa’s Decade: Now or Never

This new decade poses a series of monumental challenges for the African continent – its land, its people and its leaders.
With these challenges come multiple opportunities for innovation, growth and equitable development. Whether through innovations to curb and combat the dire effects of the global climate crisis at the local and continental scale, the growth of digital and social media activism to improve cultures of governance and leadership, or a Pan-African approach to international contracts and trade – Africans are and have been facing these mounting challenges head on.
But, the work is far from over. Rather, the new decade comes with a marked increase in the severity of these challenges.
The 2020 LSE Africa Summit, Africa’s Decade: Now or Never zeros in on the urgency of developing spaces for the critical exploration of solutions to these challenges. Our keynotes, panels and fireside chats critically and creatively discuss the spectrum of African challenges in the new decade.
Our conversations range from the global climate crisis that already affects and will continue to affect Africa the most out of any other continent; the potential and drawbacks of sensationalized digital innovations; the ongoing battles for gender equality and the rights of individuals with marginalized identities – all of which are compounded by the projected doubling of the African population by 2050.
As a platform to celebrate, critique and re-conceive approaches to Africa’s challenges, the 2020 Summit propels African thinkers, innovators, activists, and leaders into a new decade rife with potential.
Tickets launch in the second week of February, stay tuned!
