Dhlomo began her media career as an award-winning TV news and lifestyle anchor, followed by an eight-year stint as Editor of the women’s magazine True Love, during which she doubled the publication’s readership and circulation. In 2003, she was named one of the most influential women in South African media by The Media magazine.
Following her editorship of True Love, she spent 18 months in Paris, France, as Head of SA Tourism and then completed an MBA at Harvard Business School, Boston, USA. She also holds a BA in Communications and Industrial Psychology from the University of South Africa and a certificate in Media Management from the University of Stellenbosch Business School, where she has been named Alumnus of the Year. After returning to SA from Boston, she launched Ndalo Media, a multi-platform company with divisions which cover print publishing, digital publishing, events and experiences, content marketing and more recently, book publishing. The print division publishes South Africa’s leading business and lifestyle consumer titles, DESTINY and DESTINY MAN magazines. In 2017, Ndalo Media acquired the licences to publish the South African editions of the leading international fashion and home décor magazines, ELLE and ELLE Décoration.
During 2017 Ndalo Pictures was launched. Ndalo Pictures is the Television and Multimedia division of Ndalo Media. Ndalo Pictures conceptualises, produces and promotes productions for television, online and stage which further align with the Ndalo Media group’s values of excellence, integrity, innovation, creativity, style and substance. The combination of our exceptional content curation capabilities, culturally diverse team and well-respected partners, positions us to create lifestyle and entertainment productions which are compelling, empowering, informative, entertaining and inspirational. The digital publishing division comprises the leading online sources of news, current affairs, lifestyle, fashion, design and business content, www.destinyconnect.com, www.destinyman.com, www.elle.co.za and www.elledecoration.co.za, along with their social media platforms. Ndalo Media’s online offering was further developed in 2017 with the launch of www.mentorfeed.com – a multi-faceted personal development platform that provides practical information and skills development resources and www.goodschoolsreport.com – a comprehensive online information portal through schools, teachers, pupils and parents can collaborate and get information on various schooling options. Features include school search, news articles, feature of the week and opportunities to advertise and subscribe.
Ndalo Media’s content marketing division produces and publishes award-winning content marketing platforms for South African companies and global multinationals. The events and experiences division, Ndalo Media Events, provides eventing, communication strategy and business development solutions for local and international companies such as Unilever, Cartier and Old Mutual, among others. In 2016, Ndalo Media launched its book publishing division under the banner, Ndalo Media Books, with the book, Personal Brand Intelligence (PBQ) – An Inspiring and Holistic Look at How Your Brand Can Evolve Intelligently to Influence Society by bestselling author, DESTINY columnist, renowned public speaker and personal branding guru Timothy Maurice Webster. It will be followed by a proudly African children’s book, Hello! My Name is Bongi, by media & advertising expert Makhosi de Wette Dludla.
Dhlomo is no stranger to accolades which celebrate her success. In 2009, she received the Olay SA Iconic Woman Award in the Media, Arts & Entertainment category. In 2010, she was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. She has also been named one of Forbes magazine’s 20 Most Powerful Women in Africa aged under 40 and was also chosen as a style icon at the 2015 SA Style Awards. In addition, she was selected as one of only 40 individuals chosen annually as a young African economic leader in the Choiseul 100 Africa rankings, a study independently carried out by the Institut Choiseul which identifies and ranks young African leaders who will play a major role in the continent’s economic development. In 2016, Dhlomo went on to win the Black Entertainment Television (BET) A-List Entrepreneur award and the prestigious Harvard Business School Africa Business Club Leadership Excellence award at the institution’s 18th Annual Africa Business Conference.
Inspired by both the business world and women’s empowerment, Dhlomo and her company support charities and organisations working with women, entrepreneurs and children. To this end, Ndalo Media has partnered with Unicef (the United Nations Children’s Fund) and is a sponsor of #CHPink, an initiative launched by global fashion icon Carolina Herrera and her daughter, Carolina Herrera de Báez, in collaboration with SA’s Breast Health Foundation, to support women undergoing breast cancer treatment. In order to support the youth, Ndalo Media launched the DESTINY Helpline for Youth and Students during 2015, a toll-free number which provides free counselling and support to youth in need. In her personal capacity, Dhlomo supports the charities Children of the Dawn and Door of Hope Children’s Mission, as well as the Rabasotho Combined School.
